KADE VERWEY LOOKS TO END SEASON ON A HIGH AFTER TOUGH DONINGTON WEEKEND

KADE Verwey is eyeing a strong finish to the season after a difficult weekend in the Pirelli National Junior Superstock Championship at Donington Park.
The 21-year-old from Silverstone had been hoping for a good weekend at one of his favourite tracks on the calendar, but cold and wet weather made it a tough few days.
The three-day event got underway at 9am on Friday morning, the Team XG Racing Kawasaki rider taking to a wet track to work on setup in the opening practice session. The track was drier for the second session but it was still cold.
More rain arrived in time to spoil Saturday’s qualifying session and all the riders struggled, with Kade ending 30th and determined to make amends during Sunday’s race.
On a dry track with wet patches throughout, he got his best start of the season, launching himself forward 13 positions on the opening lap to move up to 17th. However, he was unable to make up any further ground in the 14-lap race and settled for a safe finish.
Kade Verwey:
“It was definitely an interesting weekend, track conditions in the wet were unbelievable – I don’t think it helped that it was wet, cold and windy, but it was like riding on ice,” he said.
“In first practice I was just trying to find a good setup for the wet and in the second, the weather was better, but it was still very cold. It was tough, the conditions still weren’t good.
“Qualifying was hard, it was probably my worst ever qualifying since I began racing and I wasn’t happy, but I was just focusing on the race and hoping I could make up some ground.
“It was dry with wet patches again, but I made up 13 spots on the first lap, although I couldn’t get any further forward. Taking the positives, at least I managed to stay upright, didn’t get knocked off and got an awesome start making up those 13 places.
“We’ve just got one round left, Brands Hatch next weekend, so I’m hoping to go there and get back up to where we should be and end the year on a high.”
